Why visit

The Caribbean's wildest island — where the reef is volcanic, the rainforest is legit, and sperm whales live year-round.

Base yourself in Roseau or Soufrière. Dive Champagne Reef in the morning, hike a rainforest waterfall in the afternoon. Sperm whale trips run October through March.

Dominica is what the Caribbean looked like fifty years ago. Small, green, mountainous, and home to the only resident sperm whale population you can (with the right operator) actually swim with.

Interesting fact

Champagne Reef is exactly what it sounds like — geothermal vents bubble warm gas through the sand, so you dive through curtains of champagne.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dominica good for whale watching?
World-class. It's one of the only places you can reliably swim with resident sperm whales (permitted operators only, seasonal).
Is it developed for tourism?
Deliberately low-key — no big all-inclusives. Come for nature, rainforest, hiking and diving.
Any critters?
Yes — frogfish, seahorses, flying gurnards. It's a strong macro destination on the Soufriere-Scotts Head side.
